 5月19日から26日まで、インドネシアのブナケン島に行って来ました。シンガポールで飛行機を乗り継いで、昼過ぎにスラウェシ島北部の町メナドに着き、そこから迎えのボートで約１時間で到着します。宿泊するTwo
Fish DiversはBunaken島の東海岸にあり、６棟のバンガローと本館に数室だけのダイバー専用リゾートです。ところが着いたらいきなり干潮で、浜から100mほど沖合いまでしかボートは近付けず、浅瀬を歩いて上陸となりました。おかげで、たった１本のロングパンツは膝下びしょびしょ。
 翌日からは毎日３本ずつダイビング三昧です。ブナケン島は周囲８kmほどの平坦な島ですが、海中は100m以上まで急に落ち込む崖になっており、素晴らしいwall
divingのポイントが並んでいます。すぐ隣には活火山のメナドトゥア島もあり、海中でも多くの亀裂や洞穴を含む複雑な溶岩地形を、無数の珊瑚礁、カイメン、ソフトコーラルが覆っています。ほとんどのポイントで急な流れがありますが、ドリフトダイビングで流れに任せて海中を移動するので、結局あまり泳ぐ必要もなく楽チンダイビングです。滞在中はガイドのアピさんが私に専任で付いてくれ、器材の運搬からセットアップ、使用後の水洗いまですべてやってくれ、自分でケアするのはカメラだけでした。
今回もSANYOのムービーカメラDMX-HD1Aを持ち込み、720pのハイビジョン映像を撮影しましたので、ブロードバンド接続で下のリンクからお楽しみください。

Kapalは最も北、Nain島の西に位置するリーフです。

| 2本目の"Barracuda"ポイントは、Mantehage島の北西にあり、その名の通りバラクーダの大きな群れや、サメ、マグロなどの大物に良く逢えるとの前評判です。入って間もなく、マダラトビエイに出会いましたが、距離遠く、写真は無理でした。ビデオにはちょっとだけ映っています。
ところが、この日はそのような大きな群れには出会わないままダイビングも終盤になり、－８ｍほどのリーフエッジを水平移動していたところ、アピが前方を指差す先を見ると、水面下３ｍ位をかなり大きな何かがゆっくりと沖合いへ泳ぎ去って行くところでした。最初は「サメ？」と直感しましたが、「ん？尾びれが水平。もしや、イルカ？いや、背鰭も頭もなく、第一、のろい！」と、そのときは正体不明でした。数分後に水面に浮上して初めてアピから「ジュゴン」と聞かされ、びっくりするとともに、あらためて感動に浸りました。

ブナケンでのダイビング最終日になり、一本目は島の北側にあるドロップオフのポイントSachiko's
ptに潜りました。いつも流れの速いポイントだそうで、この日も壁沿いにドリフトしてゆきます。透明度もかなり良く、５０～６０ｍの深場まで見渡せます。大物の登場を期待させるポイントでしたが、結局は空振りに終わってしまいました。 |

２本目は、他のゲストはLekuan I.へ潜ったのですが、私は既に一昨日そこへ潜っていたので、私だけ近くの別のポイントMuka Kampungへ連れて行ってもらいました。かなり流れの強いポイントで、例によって壁沿いに流れに乗ってゆくと、ここでも大きなタイマイが寝ているところを起こしてしまいました。
